PFP Maker

PFP is short for profile picture, the small image next to your name on every platform. Most people either use a photo or borrow a picture from somewhere else. A PFP maker gives you a third option: a character that looks the way you want and that nobody else has.

This maker opens in portrait mode with a square canvas. Pick a hairstyle, a face and a background, then download. The file is 1024 x 1024 pixels with no watermark.

What makes a good PFP

A profile picture is viewed at the size of a thumbnail, usually inside a circle. Three things survive at that size.

• A clear outline. Hair with a strong shape reads better than fine detail.
• Contrast with the background. Light character on dark, or dark on light. Avoid a background close to your hair color.
• One expression. A Wink, a grin or a flat stare. The face is all anyone will see, so make it say something.

Look like yourself, or like someone else

If you want an avatar that resembles you, match four things: hair shape, hair color, skin tone and glasses if you wear them. Those four are how friends recognize a cartoon of you. Everything else can be invented.

If you would rather stay anonymous, go the other way. Give the character a color you would never wear and an expression that suits your online voice. Many people keep the same character for years, and it becomes how others picture them.

One character, every platform

Every major platform accepts a square image and masks it to a circle or rounded square. A 1024 pixel square covers all of them, so you only need one file. If you already have a photo or artwork to use instead, the circle PFP maker and square PFP maker crop any image to size.
