Every part in this maker has its own color control, with swatches for speed and a full color picker for exact shades. That is where a custom picture comes from.

Where the customization is

These controls are what make two results different.

The color picker. The last round button in each color row opens it. Type or pick any color for hair, eyes, skin, clothes, accessories and background.
Separate bangs and hair. Mix any front with any back for combinations a single hairstyle list cannot offer.
Detail colors. Stripes, ties, bows and stickers take their own color, separate from the outfit.
Two-color backgrounds. Dots, Stars, Hearts, Checker, Clouds and Sunburst each use a base color and a pattern color.

A method for unusual results

Start by choosing a palette you have not seen on an avatar before, for example navy hair, amber eyes and cream clothes. Then pick one part from an unexpected category: the Kimono, an Eye mask, Long elf ears. Unusual color plus one unusual part is enough to make the picture stand apart, even when the rest is simple.

Save your design file

Copy link stores the complete design in a link. Keep it somewhere safe. It is the editable original, and it lets you return in a month to change a single detail without rebuilding the picture.
